Welcome to our Art Club available for K through 5th grade!
About:
The Creative Hive's Art Club is a vibrant and imaginative space where children can unleash their creativity through the power of art. This enriching program provides a nurturing environment for young minds to explore their artistic talents and express themselves freely. With an array of high-quality materials at their fingertips, the children are empowered to transform their visions into tangible masterpieces. The Art Club encourages individuality and fosters a sense of pride as each child crafts their own original artwork. Art Club not only helps enhance the children's artistic skills but also develops problem-solving abilities, fine motor skills, social skills, and a deeper appreciation for the arts.
When & Where:
The program will be offered Mondays and Thursdays from 3:45 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. We offer student pick up from Port Dickinson Elementary School around 3:15/3:20, then we will walk together across the street to the art studio. Students from other districts are also welcome to participate in Art Club. The Creative Hive is located at 783 Chenango St. Suite 3 Binghamton, N.Y. 13901 * We do not meet on school days off, half days, or snow days.*
Snacks:
Due to various food allergies, snacks will not be provided by The Creative Hive. Please pack a snack for your child if you would like them to have one after school. Water bottles will be available for students who need a drink.

K-2nd Homeschool Art Class
Bring your kiddo to The Hive every week for art class - color, paint, draw, make friends, and explore new materials with weekly projects, small group sizes, and an encouraging environment to explore imagination and creativity! We start every class with show & tell for those who would like to participate! Class time options are Tuesdays @ 9:30a.m. or Wednesdays @ 11:30 a.m.

3rd-5th Grade Homeschool Art Class
Bring your kiddo to The Hive every Tuesday or Wednesday for art class - color, paint, draw, make friends, and explore new materials, artists, & techniques with weekly projects, small group sizes, and an encouraging environment to explore imagination and creativity! Class time options are Tuesdays @ 11:30 a.m. or Wednesdays @ 1:30 (FULL)

This art class is set up for grades 6th-8th. Each week, we will discuss different art related topics such as techniques, artists, design elements, and explore various mediums to implement into our own unique artwork. Class time options are Tuesdays @ 1:30 p.m. or Thursdays @ 9:30 a.m.

9th-12th Homeschool Art Class
This art class is set up for grades 9th-12th. Each week, we will discuss different art related topics such as techniques, artists, design elements, and explore various mediums to implement into our own original artwork. This class meets Thursdays at 11:30 a.m.

Holiday Cheer Mobile

During this class, students will be guided through drawing the Holiday Cheer Mobile with room for customizations and originality! After drawing, we will outline with permanent marker and add color using water color pencils. This project is created on 9” x 12” watercolor paper. All materials and instruction provided.

Quirky Turkey Mixed Media Class
Join us for this fun and quirky Turkey Mixed Media class! We will be using oil pastels and watercolors on 12”x 18” watercolor paper to create these vibrant pieces. Oil pastels act as a resist to the watercolors allowing the colorful designs and details of your art to stand out. Students will be guided step by step to create their own original artwork. All materials and instruction are provided.

Art In Nature Camp (Full)

Does your child love being creative and being outside?! If so, you have found your camp! During this camp, we combine our love of nature into each project. Weather permitting, will plan to meet at Port Dickinson Park for activities such as shadow drawing, plein air painting, collecting nature to use in our artwork, and more! If the weather doesn’t cooperate, we will still hold this camp at our studio where each project will be nature themed and elements from nature will be collected to use in our artwork.

Famous Artists Art Camp
This week’s art camp is an ode to the masters- the greats who paved the way and pushed boundaries to create new & exciting styles! Each day, we will discuss a new artist and create a project based on one of their most famous works. You can expect to learn about some of art history’s most influential artists such as DaVinci, VanGogh, Picasso, Kahlo, and Dali.

DIY Upcycling & Repurposing Camp (FULL)

This week, we're transforming trash into treasure by repurposing items such as planters, tiles, tin cans, jars, cardboard, old t-shirts, jeans, and an assortment of found or thrifted objects. Additionally, we'll be crafting our own candles and soaps.

Around the World Art Camp
Let’s travel the world in five days! In this week’s art camp, we will be learning about art and cultures from all around the world. Each day we will “travel” to a different place and explore everything from different styles of dress to food to climate and how these changes inspire unique artwork to be made. We will use what we learn each day to create our very own original art using various mediums such as tin, paint, inks, etc.

Harry Potter Art Camp
Accio!!! Summon your creativity! Embark on a week-long adventure with Harry Potter-themed arts and crafts while listening to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Select your house, craft wands and potions, paint your patronus, create self-portraits in Hogwarts attire, draw your "familiar," shape and mold clay mandrakes, and enjoy many more magical activities!

Is your child an animal lover?! Then they will fall in love with this art camp where everything that we make will be inspired by animals! We will be creating pet portraits, upcycled egg carton animals, studying their textures and patterns to create abstract artwork, and making habitat dioramas!

Magical Art Camp (FULL)

Prepare to be amazed! We start with a blank surface and turn it into something beautiful! Abracadabra! Join us for a week of magical art making. During this camp your child will learn how creating art can be much like how a magician performs magic tricks. We will explore optical illusions, artist MC Escher & tessellations, paint pouring, fun transfer techniques, scratch paper, tin art, create glow in the dark paintings, how to make shapes look 3-D, bubble painting, and make color changing slime!

Cozy Campsite Directed Draw & Paint

Join the fun in this mixed media class! We will be bedazzling our black and white portraits into fun and vibrant works of art using paint, paper, and other fun materials! This project is done on an 11” x 14” canvas.

Snowflake Wall Hanging Kid's Class
In this class, we will be making winter wall hangings using sticks, beads, paint, glitter, and paper snow flakes. At the class start, we will paint and glitter our “snowy branches”. While the paint is drying, we will go over how to cut out paper snowflakes. Then we will choose our beads to add “ice crystals” to the branches, and lastly our unique snowflakes will be the final touch. Kids love this magical and messy project!

Yeehaw! Welcome to the Wild Wild West Camp! We will be designing cowboy hats, making old west dioramas, weavings, creating “wanted” self portrait posters, learning about Georgia O’Keefe’s skull paintings & landscapes, breaking geodes to use as a reference for artwork, and painting horses!

Baby Birds Illustration Class
During this class, you will be taken step by step how to draw your own version of this springtime illustration. We will start with basic shapes then move on to adding textures and details in the foreground and background. Each person will be provided with drawing paper for their warm up, practice sketch. The final artwork will be created on watercolor paper using Micron pens and watercolor pencils to bring your creation to life! All materials and instruction provided. Registration is required!
Pot of Gold & Rainbow Watercolor

Georgia O'Keefe Inspired Flowers

Join us as we explore the art work of American artist, Georgia O’Keefe, who was famous for her large and colorful flower paintings. During this workshop, we will create our own floral paintings on hexagonal canvases! Students will be provided flowers to use as references to draw and paint from. The artwork created during this workshop will be displayed at The Discovery Center for their “Queen Bee” themed First Friday held on March 3rd, 2023.

Art Explorers- Observational Drawing
Does your child LOVE to draw?? Bring them in for a fun & relaxed drawing class where they will choose from different objects to draw from! There will be a variety of drawing materials available to experiment with. Class will start with 4 short sketching warm ups (about 3 mins each) and then we will move on to our final drawing of their choice! Your child has total creative freedom with guidance on shading, composition, proportions, color, etc. Class ends with a fun drawing game!
